3 WAYS TO WEAR A SWEATER DRESS

Wearing a sweaterdress from Japan (simlar H&M one), Free People boots, nylons from Nordstrom, BaubleBar tassel earrings, and Gucci padlock handbag.

What do you think of sweater dresses? Well, I love them. They’re my favorite clothing article to wear in the winter because sweater dresses are extremely comfortable, warm, and easy to wear. They also look great with leggings, and are particularly great to wear during your “time of the month” since sweater dresses cover your butt. If you’re wondering how to pull off a sweater dress or even what to wear with one, you’re in the right place. Below are 3 of my favorite ways to style a sweater dress and some styling tricks to ensure you look your best.

3 Ways to Wear a Sweater Dress:

The Effortlessly Chic Way: Sweater Dress + Over the Knee Boots.

This is my favorite way to wear a sweater dress. I usually like to show some bare thigh (like my previous post here), but since it was cold I wore nylons so you can still see the contrast between the sweater, my legs, and my boots. I love how simple and stylish this look is, how the boots elongate your figure and this is seriously a look ANYONE can pull off. My biggest tip is to get boots that hit above your knees. If you own boots that barely hit your knee a trick I like to do is to wear socks in a similar color as the shoe and pull up the socks higher then the boots so the boots appear taller. The higher the over the knee boots are, the taller you’ll appear.

The Comfortable, Lazy Girl Way: Sweater Dress + Leggings + Sneakers.

Don’t you love how sneakers have become more fashionably acceptable to wear with dresses? I’ve been a huge fan of the sneaker trend since I’m always walking up and down hills and love how there are so many hip sneakers out there. 3 of my favorite sneaker brands are Common Projects, Golden Goose, and Adidas. When wearing a sweater dress with sneakers, I recommend pairing it with long black leggings and sneakers that fit the vibe of the sweater. For example, for my outfit, I wouldn’t wear Nike’s with it since the tone of my sweater is more classy. I’d pair it with some modern white sneakers like these Common Projects or Calvin Klein irena sneakers.

The Formal, Upscale Way: Fitted Sweater Dress + Trench Coat + Heels or Booties.

It’s crazy how anything fitted (tastefully) has the ability to make you look more polished. There are so many cute fitted sweater dresses like this Frame turtleneck one that’s great for the office or formal events. The best thing about fitted sweater dresses is that you still get the comfort without sacrificing style. I like to throw on a trench coat when I wear fitted sweater dresses since the fabric is usually thinner and trench coats help elevate a look. Heels or booties are also great ways to stylize the sweater dress and keep the entire look polished.
